Caramel-filled treat

ROLO

Rolo was a hugely popular chocolate candy in Ireland when I was growing up. It was introduced in the thirties in the UK, and is produced under license in the US by Hershey. I was a little disappointed when I had my first taste of the American version as the center is very hard and chewy. The recipe used on the other side of the Atlantic calls for a soft gooey center.

Rolo is a brand of chocolate-covered caramel candy. The candy is typically small, circular, and consists of a chewy caramel center surrounded by a smooth milk chocolate coating. Rolos are often individually wrapped and are known for their distinctive roll-shaped appearance.

The brand was first introduced by Mackintosh’s (later acquired by Nestlé) in the United Kingdom in 1937. In the United States, Hershey’s produces and markets Rolos. Over the years, different variations of Rolos have been introduced, including Rolo Minis and Rolo ice cream.

The combination of creamy caramel and milk chocolate has made Rolos a popular and enduring sweet treat enjoyed by many. They are often available in candy aisles, and their small size makes them convenient for snacking or sharing.
